Cleaning

Product lines (Petroleum products)

Crude lines (fuel oil), may have wax type residue on the pipe wall. These cannot be removed by normal displacement of the line. Special cleaning programs should be prepared to have the line clean and free of any wax/paraffin deposits.

A number of pig runs will be required to remove most the deposits however mechanical cleaning alone will not be sufficient to leave the pipeline in a completely inert situation. Therefore a number of pig runs with chemical batches should be used, normally four pig-runs with several batches will be required. The chemical batches will consist of some chemicals, these could be solvents or surfactant type chemicals. The final batch should always have water soluble chemicals that could be flushed easily.
